Goedereede

( Listen? / I ) goedereede was a municipality in the Netherlands, South Holland province, with 11375 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012). Since 1 January 2013 is part of the municipality of Goeree -Overflakkee. The total area of the town is approximately 154 km ².

  • The small town Goedereede ( about 2000 inhabitants), where the local government is
  • The fishing village Stellendam ( about 3500 inhabitants)
  • The tourist and fishing village Ouddorp ( about 6000 inhabitants)
  • The hamlet Havenhoofd ( about 400 inhabitants)
  • The hamlet Oostdijk

Location and economic

The former municipality is located in the northwest of the island of Goeree -Overflakkee. The Haring Vliet causeway connecting it to the mainland. About this causeway leads a built in part as a highway road to Vlaardingen and Rotterdam.

Ouddorp has importance as a tourist destination: Ouddorp and Stellendam are also fishing villages ( new fishing harbor on the Haringvliet dam ). Next as horticulture ( extraction of Flower seeds ).

History

As early as the third century, the territory of the present village was settled by the Romans. Probably around 900 was the village Ouddorp, on the former island Westvoorne. Goedereede ( = good roadstead ) in the 13th century an important port and fishing center. It received city rights in 1312 and 1331 the market rights. Goedereede but was frequently hit by disasters. An Army band devastated it in 1418; a town fire in 1482; Floods, there were 1421 (St. Elisabeth flood ), 1530, 1570, 1618 and finally on 1 February 1953. The decline was accelerated by the silting up of the harbor from about 1500.

Ouddorp had 1860 to 1973 a major fishing port.

Stellendam originated in 1800 as a newly created fishing village.

  • Water in and around separated by the Brouwersdam from the North sea arm Grevelingen; many campsites; Marina on the south coast
  • On the north side of a quiet North beach (very beautiful nature reserve " De Hoek Kwade ").
  • The nature reserve " Westduinen " where there are orchids; in summer, the tourist information office ( VVV ) walks organized under the leadership here
  • The lighthouse of Ouddorp (1948 built )
  • Beautiful medieval church towers in Ouddorp ( 1348 ) and the Catharinakerk Goedereede ( 1512 built )
  • Picturesque gabled houses on the market square of Goedereede
  • You can narrow angular paths make beautiful hiking and cycling, including along the old mansions and large farms from the 17th century.
