Goff's Caye

Goff's Caye is an island off the coast of Belize. It belongs to the 450 islands of the Belize Barrier Reef. Administratively, it is part of the Belize District.

Goff's Caye is located between Belize City and the largest atoll of the Belize Barrier Reef, the Turneffe Atoll. The island lies just north of the English Caye Channel and almost exactly at the reef edge. It is classified as an archaeological site since the early modern period a fishing settlement, a trading post and a cemetery on the island were.

Goff's Caye was in the 1960s and 1970s, a popular destination for the local population. Meanwhile, the island is regularly visited by passengers near anchor Direction cruise ships that have been installed for some amenities such as a toilet, a barbecue and shaded seating. In addition to the tourist use the area is also important as a fishing ground of local fishermen. To the north of the island are feeding grounds of marine turtles. In the area there are, inter alia, White-bellied boobies, cormorants, terns and frigate birds.
