Gölcük is a district in the Turkish province of Kocaeli. The county has an area of 207 km ² with a population of 136 513 (2008 ). The county town of 130 141 inhabitants with also called Gölcük. The county Gölcük adjacent to the Bay of Izmit. The Turkish Navy has a base in Gölcük.

Golcük was the center of the earthquake Gölcük on 17 August 1999, in which there have been thousands of deaths. Alone in the district Gölcük about 20,000 people died.
