Gombasek Cave

The Gombaseker cave is located on the territory of the municipality Gombasek, on the western edge of the Silická planina ( German Silica plateau ) in the area of the National Park Slovak Karst in the community Slavec ( district Gombasek ) in Slovakia. It was creek through the activities of Čierny (literally Schwarzenbach ) created and its tributaries. Of the total length of 1525 m 535 m are available. The tour takes about 30 minutes.

The cave was discovered in 1951 by cavers from Rožňava ( German Rosenau on the Salza ). 1955, about 300 m long section was made available.

Typical of the cave are strange, two to three millimeters thick and up to three meters long white soda straws. The cave has several halls. Each room has something special. The spacious marble hall are colored stalactites and on the ground nature has created cone-shaped stalagmite, which is very reminiscent of a tropical ant-hill. The hall was named after a Hiroshima atomic mushrooms rinner ends Stalagnat. The stalagmites and walls sinterverzogenen play there in all colors. In the Named after the discoverer of the cave hall of Ladislav Herényi can admire a stone rain. It has arisen out of the soda straws that grow side by side tightly.

Because your micro-climate the cave is used for the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract since 1968.

For silica Gombasek cave system also makes it the deepest ice cave in Central Europe, the Silická ľadnica. The Gombaseker cave in 1995 along with the caves of the Slovak Karst - explains Domica Cave and Cave Jossauer a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
