Gomes Eanes de Zurara

Gomes Eanes de Azurara, Portuguese Gomes Eanes de Zurara (* around 1410 in Azurara in Vila do Conde, † 1474 ) was a Portuguese historian.

Azurara was an employee of Fernão Lopes and was in 1454 as the successor to the royal chronicler. Azurara sat with his book " Crónica da tomada de Ceuta " the incomplete description of the reign of the Portuguese King John I of Lopes continued. The work deals with the conquest of the Muslim coastal cities of North Africa. Azuraras masterpiece is the " Crónica do Descobrimento e conquista da Guiné ", the first description of the Portuguese voyages of discovery and a paean to the role of Henry the Navigator.
