Gonatozygon

Gonatozygon is an endemic freshwater genus of green algae group of Jochalgen ( Zygnematales ). It consists of 12 species.

Features

The representatives form unbranched filaments of a cell line that readily disintegrate into single cells. The cells have a diameter of 4 to 20 micrometers and 500 micrometers long. The cells are rod-shaped and have a circular cross-section. The cells do not have a central constriction. The nucleus is located in the center. You have one, two or several chloroplasts, which are plate-shaped and are axially. The chloroplasts have partially longitudinal strips and carry several conspicuous pyrenoids. Are located on the cell walls of the pores, the walls are often prickly and sometimes composed of cylinder rings.
