Gonzalo Pizarro

Gonzalo Pizarro ( * 1502 in Trujillo, † April 10, 1548 in Cusco ) was a conquistador, a Spanish conqueror of the 16th century, and a half-brother of Francisco Pizarro.

Gonzalo Pizarro was followed in 1530 with his other brothers Francisco to the New World, and was involved in the conquest of the Inca Empire. Together with his brother Hernando, he survived the siege of Cuzco ( 1536/37 ).

From 1540 he undertook with Francisco de Orellana, an expedition to the Amazon in search of the legendary Zimtland. When he 1542 ragged and half starved again reached Quito, he had learned that his brother Francisco, the governor of " New Castile " said conquered territories, had been murdered.

In the same year, the Viceroyalty of Peru was founded by Blasco Núñez Vela became the first viceroy royal decree.
