Goon (film)

Goon ( German Subtitles: No movie for pussies ) is an American feature film from director Michael Dowse from the year 2011 with Seann William Scott in the lead role.

Action

Doug is a bouncer in a small pub in Orange Town. In his spare time he looks with his friend Pat regular ice hockey games at the stadium. In a game, a player of the opposing team by Pat feels offended and wants to lash out at him. Doug goes but in between, puts some hard blows of the player away unimpressed and finally knocks him unconscious. This falls on Ronnie Hortense, the coach of the local ice hockey club, which then invites him for a trial. There comes promptly to a Brawl, beating several players at Doug. Doug will be included in the team.

Doug's job in the game is the ceiling of the offensive player and the beating of opponents on the ice. When he receives an offer to play for a higher category club, he moved to Halifax. His new team first loses many games. By some fluke of Doug the tide turns, however. Before one of the games Doug hits the opposing player Ross, whom he admired for several years, as Ross like to beat up just like Doug opponents on the ice. Ross tells him that he wants to finish the end of the season, his career and threatens him to beat him at their next meeting on the ice. Since Doug, is closed for this game, there is not yet a direct clash.

In a bar, he meets Eva. Although it has a bad conscience to get involved with Doug, because she has a boyfriend. However, it is fascinated by him and keeps in touch with him. Only after some time, she finds the courage to separate from her boyfriend.

Doug is at a crucial game the puck to block with his face and thus help his team to victory. In the last decisive match Doug's team meets again to the team of Ross. On the ice, there is direct confrontation between Ross and Doug. Although Doug is already heavily injured, he can beat Ross unconscious. Doug's team can finally win the game.

Criticism

" Goon " is certainly not boring and not a bad film, but too contrived and known reared, as he really could be something special. "

Background

The film is based on the book Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey by Adam Frattasio and Doug Smith.

Publication

The film was first shown in September 2011 as part of the Toronto International Film Festival and launched on February 24, 2012 in selected cinemas in the United States. In Germany the film was not running in the cinema but was released straight to DVD. The film grossed at the box office worldwide about 6.5 million U.S. dollars.
