Gordon Ferrie Hull

Gordon Ferrie Hull ( October 7, 1870 *, † October 7, 1956 ) was an American teacher, mathematician and physicist who is best known for the experimental detection of the radiation pressure.

Life

Hull earned his doctorate in 1897 for physics at the University of Chicago, where he was later professor of physics. Thereafter (1899-1940), he taught physics at Dartmouth College. In addition, he held a research position at the University of Cambridge and taught physics at Columbia University. In addition to his scientific career, Hull also accelerated his military career.

Especially famous was Hull, as he proved in 1903 along with Ernest Fox Nichols as one of the first radiation pressure experimentally.
