Gorica (Puconci)

Gorica (Hungarian Halmosfő, German Goritz ) is a scattered village in the municipality Puconci in Slovenia with about 300 inhabitants (2007 ).

Location

It borders the towns Puconci Vaneča, Šalamenci, Predanovci and Polana. The nearest major town Murska Sobota is situated six kilometers south of the village.

History

The name Gorica appears for the first time in 1365 as Guricha 1366 and finally as Goricha in dystrictu Sancti Martini ( Goricha in the parish of St. Martin Martjanci ). Sources mention the village already in 1500, ie during the Reformation period, in which the majority of the population was Protestant. Today, living in the village Catholics, Lutherans and Pentecostals. In 1698 Goricza had 70 inhabitants.

It is believed that the village's name was originally derived from the surrounding vineyards.
