Goro (sweet bread)

Goro [ guru ], also Gudråd, is a Norwegian pastries for Christmas ( Yule ). It is prepared with a special waffle iron, the Goroeisen.

The recipe is similar to the Rheinische cinnamon waffles, a traditional New Year pastries, but an almost equal proportion of lard is used in addition to butter. Further, in almost all the recipes cardamom plays an important role.

In Norway it is tradition, " syv slag " ( seven varieties) Christmas cookies make. The number seven as well as the formulation probably goes back to Hanna Winsnes, 1845 her " great cookbook " published. During this period, the Norwegian National Romanticism, many of today's national traditions of the then still dominated by Sweden and pro-independence country emerged.

What are the seven varieties varies from place to place. According to a poll of newspaper Aftenposten from 1992 Goro is one of the seven types of baked goods, which are common in the country most.
