Gorongosa

Province

Vila Gorongosa is Mozambican city in the province of Sofala. Before independence in 1975 Mozambique was known as Vila Paiva de Andrade.

Geography

Vila Gorongosa is located at 380 m in the homonymous district of Gorongosa. To the east lies the Gorongosa National Park. In 2008, the municipality of Gorongosa was established.

Population

According to a census in 1997 Gorongosa had 11,968 inhabitants.

Policy

First President of the Conselho Municipal da Gorongosa is after the election of 29 January 2009 Moreze Cauzande of FRELIMO.
