Gösting

Gösting ( Slavic, either from gostinca - " Hostel " - or gozd - " mountain forest " ) is the 13th city district of Graz. It is in the northwest of the city between Mur and Plabutsch or the ridge north of it, which is crowned by the ruins Gösting.

History

Even before the year 1138 were from Aribonen Swiker Gösting of the castle today Göstinger Ruinenberg, formerly Annenberg, and founded the village Gösting. 1430 was the village from 33 farms and some craftsmen, including two millers in today so named Müller district and the valley stream.

1707 were purchased from the Attems castle and dominion. A fire due to a lightning strike in 1723 almost completely destroyed, the castle fell into disrepair in the 18th century increasingly.

From 1850 to 1938 Gösting was a separate municipality, headed by community leaders and from 1919 by mayors.
