Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra

The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, English Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, are an orchestra, which has its headquarters in Gothenburg. It was founded in 1905 and since 1997 may refer to as Swedish National Orchestra. A popularity boost began in the 1980s, one with the obligation of Neeme Järvi as its chief conductor, who made an international reputation with numerous recordings the orchestra. By an industrial sponsor, the size of the orchestra from 80 to 110 musicians could be increased in this period. The GSO has made several tours in the last 10 to 15 years. Among other things, played in London, Vienna, Boston and Shanghai and has proved popular both with the public and the critics.

The GSO has a wide repertoire, but his special interest is the masterpieces of Nordic composers of the late romantic era, such as Jean Sibelius and Edvard Grieg. Sound recordings are also dominated by works of Nordic composers.

The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra play in the building built in 1935, known for its excellent acoustics Gothenburg Concert Hall.
