Gottfried von Meiss

Gottfried von Meiss (* September 22, 1909; † 22 December 2000) was a Swiss air force officer and participants of the Olympic Games of 1936 and 1948.

Life

From Meiss, who had grown up as the son of a Swiss-Austrian family in Austria, was sent in 1927 by his father, Oskar von Meiss - Teuffen for taking the Matura and the study of economics in Switzerland. He graduated from the University of Zurich with a doctorate, which he submitted to the dissertation considerations on the relationship between war and economy. After initial difficulties in adapting to the proven excellent sailor and swordsman, who belonged to the Swiss noble family von Meiss, both in the Swiss economy as well as in military affairs. From 1940, Pilot Officer, Meiss rapidly grew to the Director of Intelligence for the Swiss Air Force.

After the end of his career as a professional officer was von Meiss, among other things in a management position at Swissair active. He was awarded for his good contacts to the UK with the title of " Officer of the British Empire " ( OBE). As a militia officer in command of Colonel von Meiss the ( French-speaking ) air regiment 1, then became Chief Flying Corps in the field 4 and finally Deputy News Chief of the Swiss Army. Gottfried Meiss was a brother of the famous adventurer, author and one-handed sailor Hans von Meiss - Teuffen. The Zurich Bar Florian von Meiss is his son.
