Goûgaram

Region

Gougaram (also: Goûgaram ) is a rural municipality in the department of Arlit in Niger.

Geography

Gougaram lies on the western edge of the Aïr Mountains and is bordered to the northwest by the neighboring country of Algeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Djado in the West, Iférouane in the southeast and Arlit and Dannet in the southwest. In the region the climate of the Sahel prevails with high temperatures and low, irregular rainfall between 50 and 100 mm of rain per year. The municipality is divided into the administrative village Oumarat and 14 water points.

History

The rural community Gougaram originated as an administrative unit in 2002 in a previously unincorporated area. When the floods in West and Central Africa 2010 2144 Resident of Gougaram were classified as disaster victims, as many as in any other community in the Agadez region.

Population

At the 2001 census Gougaram had 4010 inhabitants, of which 105 are in the village Oumarat. For 2010, a total of 6243 inhabitants were calculated. In the south of the municipality is the Tamascheq - variety Tayart, spoken the Tamascheq - variety Tahaggart in the north along the border with Algeria.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004, Mohamed Aoutchiki ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On 15 April 2010 the Council of Ministers Ahmed Alghous appointed administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) the community.

Economy and infrastructure

Gougaram also serves as a military station for control purposes. In the village there is a primary school reopened in 2010.
