Goulburn River (New South Wales)

Goulburn River in the Goulburn River National Park

The Goulburn River is a river in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales. It rises east of Mudgee, flows east and empties into the small town of Denman in the Hunter River.

The river flows through a wild, sparsely populated area that has been declared for the most part to the Goulburn River National Park. Its main tributaries are the Widden Brook, the Krui River and the Merriwa River.

1823 explored the discoverer William Lawson the Goulburn River. He named it after Henry Goulburn, a British politician in the 1820s.
