Government Factories Type 213 Vihor

The Utva 213 Vihor was a two-seat trainer aircraft of the Yugoslav beginners aircraft manufacturer Utva and was originally referred to as the Ikarus 213.

History and construction

Designed by engineers Sostaric, Marjanovic and Curcic Utva 213 was a wooden structure with retractable spur wheel landing gear and was powered by a piston engine. The aircraft had a two-seater cabin and cockpit closed seats arranged one behind the other. The prototype was built by Icarus, first flew in 1948 and still had a retractable front landing gear, which was then modified to be pulled laterally in the production version.

The serial production of the aircraft took place in the period 1950-1954 in the aircraft factory in Pancevo at Utva. A total of 170 copies of the aircraft were produced and used by the Yugoslav Air Force for pilot training until they were replaced by the more modern Soko 522.
