Government House (Hobart)

The Government House ( literally translated as government buildings ) in Hobart is the official residence and the official residence of the Governor of Tasmania. Overall, there were three Government Houses in Hobart.

After two years in a makeshift tent, referring Governor David Collins, the first Government House, a wooden building. After the bricks were available, it has been extended, but it remained a house with only three rooms, that the demands of a seat of government was not enough. In 1817, the second Government House was built, which was provided with 14 rooms on two floors. But this building was not an ideal solution, so it was torn down in 1858.

Already in 1855 we started with the construction of a new building, located at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens which was far more comfortably. The slate for the roof had been imported from Wales. The work was completed after two years of construction in 1857 and the house was purchased by Governor Henry Young on January 2, 1858. The house is equipped with 73 rooms and has a large garden area.

Distributed throughout the year as various other events at Government House Government Meeting, Business, so instead. Both the governor and his representatives have their offices in the building.
