Governor-Generalship of the Steppes

The General of the steppe (Russian Степное генерал-губернаторство/Stepnoje General Gubernatorstwo ) was an administrative unit of the Russian Empire in northern Central Asia, mostly in the area of present-day Kazakhstan, with some areas in today's Russian Federation. It was formed in 1882 from parts of the General Turkestan and of this resolution the General Government Western Siberia and existed until 1917. It consisted of the territories Akmolinsk, Semipalatinsk and Semirjetschensk. Capital was Omsk. It had 1,467,251 km ² and 2,362,603 ​​inhabitants in 1897.
