Geography
The district has an area of 1,183 km ². In the district are called seven lakes, even tears of Capac. One of them is the lake Goygol, after the rayon and its capital city is named. In the south of the region is mountainous and forested.
History
The district was established in 1930. 1992, a part of the territory was split off as a district Samux. On 25 April 2008 the rayon with the city of Xanlar was renamed to Goygol.
Population
In Rayon lived 2009 57.000 people. These are spread over 45 settlements.
Economy
The region is dominated by agriculture. There is wine, fruit and vegetables are grown and operated livestock.
Culture
In Rayon is the Ag Korpu ( White Bridge ), built in the 12th century. There are several archaeological sites from the Stone and Bronze Ages and in the capital there is a Lutheran wooden church from 1854.
Traffic
The district is running an Azerbaijani highway and a railway line Azərbaycan Dövlət Dəmir Yolu.
