Graafwater

Province

Graafwater is a village in the municipality Cederberg, West Coast district, Western Cape Province in South Africa. In 2011 it had 2,261 inhabitants. It is located about 30 kilometers east of Lamberts Bay and 30 kilometers west of Clanwilliam in the Cederberg Mountains between Sandveld ( Cederberg Mountains ) and the coast on the road R364.

Economically the village lives of the surrounding farms. Potatoes and rooibos tea are cultivated here. After the winter rain coats in the South African spring (July / August) the landscape around the city with a variety of flowers. The name refers to the usual in this dry area excavations for water.

The town was founded in 1910 as a station between Cape Town and Bitterfontein. Later it developed out of the local church the present town.
