Grace (prayer)

The grace is a blessing on the food as well as a thank you, which is, more rarely, directed at the beginning of the end of a meal in God.

Judaism

The Jewish table prayer is attributed to the Bible verse: And you shall eat and be satisfied and bless the Eternal your God for the good land which he hath given thee ( 5th book of Moses, chapter 8, verse 10. ). It basically consists of four blessings, in which thanked God and asked for redemption of the people of Israel. Details please see Birkat Hamason.

Christianity

Origin and Meaning

The Christian grace has its roots in the Jewish beracha Blessed ( baruch ) are you, YHWH our God, Creator of the world, for food and drink: Through them you grant us life and joy. Blessed are you for ever.

The two aspects of thanks and blessing are in another one. Heb. Baruch, as Greek and Latin benedictus eulogetòs, related both to praise God as a blessing to the creatures and created. The praise of God through the gifts of blessing at the same time these to healing and including fruitful use. For every creature of God is good and nothing to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by God's word and by prayer. (1 Tim 4:4-5 NIV ).

The further development of Christianity and the German language show falling apart, but also the lasting togetherness of blessing and praise of God in grace.

Shape

The solemn grace in larger community is usually from Psalm words (especially Ps 104.27 et seq ) and the Gloria Patri, this can get free or embossed prayers. For the Catholic practice includes the introductory and final sign of the cross.

" (O God, bless us, our maintenance, you gave us and protect them from us the fire, in the name of God). At the end of the meal we say: " Al- hamdulillah " (thank God, or Blessed be God).
