Grady Chapman

Grady Chapman ( born October 1, 1929 in Greenville, South Carolina; † January 4, 2011 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American singer. He was best known as the lead singer of the doo-wop group The Robins ( a precursor group of The Coasters ).

Life

Chapman grew up in Greenville and graduated in 1952 the vocal group The Robins on. He sang there with Bobby Nunn, Billy Richards, Roy Richards, Ty Terrell, and later Carl Gardner. The Robins published, among other singles on RCA Records and Sparks, the label of Leiber / Stoller. 1955 Leiber and Stoller walked parts of The Robins, The Coasters around. Chapman was not dabei.1958 wrote Chapman Sweet Pea (Class Records # 232) for the duo Bob & Earl. Chapman was later a member of the offshoot Coasters The Coasters Mark II, in which Bobby Nunn, Bobby Sheen and Billy Richards, Jr sang. 1977 Chapman sang with Billy Guy and Jerome Evans at Paid the Price of Michelle Phillips, whose album Victim of Romance. Chapman also appeared between the 1990s and 2000 as a replacement for Carl Gardner on with The Coasters. With various members he stepped up to his death as Grady Chapman & The Robins. On January 4, 2011, he died of heart failure.
