Graham McRae

Graham McRae ( born March 5, 1940 in Wellington ) is a former racing driver from New Zealand.

The Formula 1 career of Graham McRae was short. In 1973, he was the Grand Prix of Great Britain on a Iso - Marlboro IR1 by Frank Williams Racing Cars at the start, but already in the first round remained the accelerator stuck. In statistics, this defect is often under since Jody Scheckter at the end of the first lap caused a mass pile and McRae's failure appears as a result of this accident in some sources. In 1973, he also drove the 500-mile race at Indianapolis, was Sixteenth and Rockie of the Year.

McRae built in New Zealand its own single-seater chassis and thus drove Formula race. In 1969, he came to Europe, and rose with a Brabham, the year before Piers Courage drove in the Formula 2 European Championship. Before and after his brief appearance in Formula 1, he played regularly Formula 5000 race on a McLaren M10.

After a few seasons in the CanAm Series McRae finished the mid- 1980s, his racing career.
