The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is one of the FCI ( No. 22, Gr. 6, sec 1.1) recognized French breed.

Origin and History

Like his contemporary, the Hubertus dog, he said to date from the 14th century. He ran into the packs of the Count of Foix, Gaston Febus, he hunted wolves, bears, wild boars and other large animals. Today, he is still very common in the south of France, especially in Gascony, where he got his name.

Description

The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is a 72 -cm and 35 kg heavier hunting dog, spotted completely black and white, giving a slate blue shimmer; with or without more or less extended black patches.

His hair is short, very thick and very dense. The ears of dogs are one of the characteristic features of the Bleu; they are thin, folded and run out of pointed, and placed forward it goes down past the tip of the nose.
