Grand Hotel des Bains

The Grand Hotel des Bains was a hotel on the Lido di Venezia. It was built in 1900 to attract wealthy tourists. It was known among other things, by Thomas Mann's residence in 1911, the inspierte for his novel Death in Venice. Luchino Visconti's 1971 film of the same was filmed there. The hotel was also used for Shepheard 's Hotel in Cairo for the film The English Patient. Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev died in the hotel in 1929.

The hotel was frequented by movie stars during the International Film Festival of Venice.

2010, the hotel was closed to rebuild it in 2011 in the apartment complex Des Bains residences that will include approximately twenty boutique hotel rooms. The funds for this comes from the Fund "Real Venice I" EstCapital Group, based in Padua.
