Grandhotel Pupp

The Grandhotel Pupp is a luxury hotel in Karlovy Vary, which consists of 228 rooms. It is the venue for the annual film festival in Karlovy Vary.

History

On the site of the present hotel was first built in 1701 the Strong from the Carlsbad Mayor Deiml at the request of August, an entertainment establishment which received the designation Saxon hall. The later Mayor Andreas cup was build in 1728 still a pleasure house on the same property, which was at right angles to the Saxon Hall was built and became known as Bohemian Hall.

1760 was the confectioner Johann Georg Pupp (* April 17, 1743 Weltrus, † February 16, 1810 Carlsbad) to Carlsbad, where he first worked for the local confectioner Peter Mitterbach. The former mayor's cup widow eventually sold one-third of the Bohemian Hall in Mitterbach's daughter Franziska, the Pupp 1775 married, who shortly thereafter became the sole owner of both halls, and ordered to Eye of God on the same site still small, very distinguished inn, which on the lawn was No. 311. In 1812 the house of two storeys was with five windows facing the street. In 1830 a music shop was housed in the house yet. The Gasthof Zum eye of God is today's Café Pupp. The Bohemian Hall established under Pupp a popular concert and a ballroom.

Between 1896 and 1907 the building of the area by the Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer was extended to a magnificent Neo-Baroque, which came under Julius Pupp ( 1870-1936 ) to world fame.

After the Second World War the house was nationalized by the government of Czechoslovakia and renamed in 1950 in Grand Hotel Moscow. 1989 was re- privatized and extensively restored. Since then, it again bears the name Grand Hotel Pupp.

Trivia

Among the most famous guests of the hotel was one of Ludwig van Beethoven, who spent the summer of 1812 and on August 6, a concert at the Bohemian Hall was - together with the violinist Giovanni Battista Polledro.

The Grandhotel Pupp has also been used several times as a film set, so 2006 for the comedy Last Holiday with Queen Latifah and 2006 in the James Bond film Casino Royale as Hotel Splendide in Montenegro.
