Grankullaviken

Grankullaviken is a 660 -acre lagoon -like bay on the northern tip of the Swedish island of Öland, which is named after the village Grankulla.

Geography

In the opening of the bay to the sea, there are three smaller islands. On the westernmost and largest island Stora will bottom lighthouse is Långe Erik. The main part of the bay holds a depth of only 1-3 meters. The entrance channel between the island Öland Nabbelund and northeast tip and an area in the middle of the bay are 5-6 feet deep. Prehistoric remains

In the area around the bay there are several prehistoric sites. On the north-eastern tip there are several probably dating from the Bronze Age grave mound. On the west bank a document emanating from the eighth century boat grave was found on a headland. An excavation in the thirties of the 20th century came there on grave goods. The over the buried ship originally present cairn is no longer available. It was used as a building material for the Port of Nabbelund.
