Great Bear (roller coaster)
Helix after the lift hill
Great Bear in Hersheypark ( Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA) is a steel roller coaster from the model inverted coaster manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, opened on 23 May 1998.
Ride
The 853 meter long track has a 27 m high lift hill and a 38 m high descent. In contrast to most other coasters of this type follows after the lift hill is not equal to the first exit, but a helix. Likewise, it has a total of four inversions: a 31 m high looping, an Immelmann, a Zero-G - Roll, and a corkscrew.
The route from Great Bear comes track of Sooperdooperlooper very close, so that the passengers right outside on the seats have the opportunity to touch the rail of Sooperdooperlooper.
Great Bear has two trains with eight cars. In each car four people can (a series à four people) take place. As restraint system come shoulder strap for use.
Construction
During construction of the railway, the manufacturer had to use some special structural elements and foundations, as the railway was built over a river and the park had problems with it to obtain permits for the construction of pillars in the water.
