Great Lake (Tasmania)

Second largest freshwater lake in Australia

The Great Lake is a lake in the center of the Australian state of Tasmania.

It is located in the sparsely populated Central Highlands and is named after the Lake Pedder is the second largest freshwater lake in Australia. The lake was originally much smaller; through the construction of a dam at the southern outflow, the Shannon River, it reached its present size.

In addition to electricity generation, the lake is used for fishing, in addition, the tourism in the region is a source of income. On its south and west shores along the Lake Highway ( A5) runs.
