Great Lakes Aircraft Company

The Great Lakes Aircraft Company is an American aircraft manufacturer from Eastman, Georgia.

Detroit Aircraft founded in 1928 the " Great Lakes Aircraft Corporation " in Cleveland, Ohio, and took over for the work of the Glenn L. Martin Company in Cleveland. The company and the work was only a few years in operation until 1932 about 200 aircraft were built there in 1936, the factory was closed. 1931 James Smith McDonnell worked at Great Lakes before moving to Martin and later McDonnell Aircraft Corporation founded.

First, the mother Detroit Aircraft were TG -1 and TE-1 built for the U.S. Navy in order. However, the most famous manufactured aircraft type is the two-seat " sports coach " Great Lakes 2T -1A -2, which gained an outstanding reputation. Some 2T are still operated today.

The name and type approval changed hands several times. In start-ups, 1972 by Douglas Champlin under the name " Great Lakes Aircraft Inc", and 1984, respectively, finally, as " Great Lakes Aircraft Company " kits and other 2T were produced with more modern engines.
