Great South Run
The Great South Run is one of the major road races in the UK. The distance is 10 miles ( 16.093 km ). The debut event took place in 1990 in Southampton, the year after the run was moved to Portsmouth. It is within the Great Run series, the first branch of the Great North Run.
Route
The flat course begins at the D- Day Museum in Southsea and runs along the coast to Portsmouth Cathedral, the Spinnaker Tower and the Navy base with the museum ships, HMS Warrior and HMS Victory. After a loop through the center of Portsmouth, the route turns east to Eastney and then runs along the coast to the goal at the Pyramids Centre, close to the starting point.
