Greater German People's Party

The Greater German People's Party ( gdpv or GdP) was a political party in Austria, which was created on August 8, 1920 from the Greater German unification, a company founded by Franz Dinghofer 1919 merger between German nationalism and German liberal -minded deputy, in Salzburg. Finally, it belonged to 17 groups. A large proportion of its members represented mainly high officials and teachers of secondary schools. The party lasted until the party ban 1934.

History

The party began with the Salzburg- club (Mayor Max Ott ), German Freedom Party People's League, German Association 's Freedom and Salzburg Business Club, which merged in 1919. The Great German Party then formed in 1920 as an all-Austrian successor to the German National Movement and the previously fragmented German - nationalist camp, and was aligned large German, ie the affiliation of German Austria to the German Reich. She was however limited to the commoners remained, stood by Landbund ( rural ) and then DNSAP. In many ways she represented positions of the Pan-Germans and their associations, with lower proportion of anti-Semitic components.

The party was very much at the union of Austria with Germany during the Weimar Republic, and knew this issue until the beginning of Nazi rule in the kingdom in 1933, the majority of the population in Austria behind. The party was thus also a staunch opponent of the provisions of the Treaty of Saint- Germain -en- Laye, which was regarded as a " dictation ". As party colors the large German party led the federal colors of black, red and gold, which go back to the German Revolution of 1848.

1921-1927 the Great Germans were involved as a junior partner of the Christian Socialists in the federal government, for the first time in 1921 in the Government Schober, and presented from 1922 to 1927 under the chancellors Schober, Ignaz Seipel and Rudolf Ramek the Vice Chancellor Felix Frank, Leopold Waber and Franz Dinghofer. Her successor in the governments of the First Republic, 1927-1929 and 1931-1934 occurred at the very similar ideologically aligned Landbund.

After the loss of government participation from many members of the party came out and changed the Home Guard and the National Socialists. 1933 joined the Greater German a fighting community with the Austrian Nazi Party, the Liberal share of the program were lost as a result of the political radicalization of the middle class. In the " corporate state " dictatorship 1934-1938 all parties were banned in Austria. With the " Anschluss" in 1938, many former members of the Greater German People's Party, the NSDAP joined.

1945 members of the former Greater German Party and the Nazi Party joined together to various groups from which information about the Association of Independent ultimately became the Austrian Freedom Party.
