Green Mountain Railroad

The Green Mountain Railroad ( GMRC ) is a local railway company in Vermont and New Hampshire (USA ), located in Bellows Falls.

It operates the former Rutland route Bellows Falls, Rutland, and a short piece of Bellows Falls to North Walpole, New Hampshire, formerly part of the Boston and Maine Railroad. The total track has a length of 84 kilometers. In Bellows Falls is the transition to the New England Central Railroad, as well as the Pan Am Railways, in Rutland for Vermont Railway and the Clarendon and Pittsford Railroad. The GMRC operates on this route the freight and the Green Mountain Flyer, a tourist train which runs regularly from Bellows Falls to Chester.

The Company was incorporated on April 3, 1964, after the Rutland Railway had ceased operations. They took over the operation from April 2, 1965, first of Bellows Falls to Ludlow, later on, the total distance to Rutland. 1967 died of the owners and the company was taken over by their employees. In 1998, the company associated with the Vermont Railway, took over their logo and since then is part of the Vermont Rail System.

In early 2006, the Company had seven locomotives, EMD GP40 three, two EMD GP9R, an ALCO RS- 1 and an ALCO S -2.
