Greenlandic Inuit

The Kalaallit (singular: Kalaaleq ) are the Greenland sub-group of the ethnic group of the Inuit. The descendants of the Kalaallit are now referred to as Greenlanders, their language as Kalaallisut ( as Greenlanders speak ) or Greenlandic.

Kalaallit means in Greenlandic contrary to popular opinion ( and read as many guides ) is no man, but Greenlanders. Hence the name of Greenland, Kalaallit Nunaat dates ( Land of the Greenlanders ). The native population describes itself as Inuit ( singular: Inuk ), people. A European who lives in Greenland, therefore, can indeed be a Kalaaleq, but never an Inuk.
