Greenstream pipeline

Green Stream (English for literally green electricity ', spelling by the operating company Green Stream) is a pipeline that is mostly under water. It transports natural gas from the Libyan city of Mellitah in the city of Gela in Sicily lying. Green Team is part of the Western Libyan Gas Project and Libya single pipeline for export ( as of 2008).

In February 2011 Green Stream by Eni was temporarily closed due to the civil war in Libya.

Construction and technical data

Was built GreenStream of the company Agip, Eni and National Oil Corporation. The work lasted from August 2003 to February 2004. Invested a total of approximately 6.6 billion U.S. dollars. The pipeline was launched in October 2004.

The transportation of natural gas begins in the Gas Compression Station at Mellitah, a compressor station with a maximum pressure of 212 bar, where lays the gas has a way of around 524 kilometers at a maximum water depth of 1,150 meters backwards until it reaches the Receiving Terminal in Sicily has.

Green Team has a transport capacity of 8 billion cubic meters per year, the tube diameter is 32 inches ( 81.28 centimeters). By 2012 or 2013 is to be an extension of the possible transport capacity of 3 billion cubic meters / year.

Due to the civil war in Libya and the ongoing decommissioning of the pipeline, the expansion in the coming years has become very unlikely.

Operators

Is operated by the joint venture Green Stream Green Stream BV. Until April 2010, Eni held 75 % from the NOC 25%. Since then, the shares of both companies are at 50% each.
