Gregor Thum

Gregor Thum ( born 2 May 1967 in Munich) is a German historian.

Biography

Thum studied from 1988 to 1995 History and Slavic Studies at the FU Berlin and Moscow. From 1995 to 2001 he was a research associate of Karl Schlogel at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt ( Oder). In 2002 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the population exchange in Breslau / Wrocław after 1945. The applied from the outset for a larger, non- scientific audience work achieved compared with the normal circulation of historical monographs on the book market with remarkable success. Thum taught from 2003 to 2008 and from 2010 to 2011 as a visiting professor of the DAAD at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Washington in the USA. From 2008 to 2010 he was a Junior Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies ( FRIAS ), Freiburg im Breisgau. Since 2012 he is Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh. He is working on a research project entitled: " Mastering the East. The German Frontier from 1800 to the Present ". The main focus is Thums German cultural history in its relationship to eastern Europe.
