Gregory of Nin

Gregory of Nin (Croatian Gregory of Nin ) was about 900-929 bishop of Nin and Chancellor of the Croatian kingdom.

Life

As Tomislav was appointed king in 923, Bishop Gregory was already one of the leading representatives of the clergy in Croatia. At the Council of Split in 925 he claimed the title of episcopus Chroatorum. In the Croatian Nationalhistoriographie 19th Century him a role as a defender of worship was often awarded in the Slavonic language and the Glagolitic alphabet, but are in the traditional sources, in particular the acts of synods of 925 and 928, will not get any hints. Rather, the service was only marginally in the Slavonic language on the two synods topic. Monuments

Gregory of Nin is honored with three bronze statues. One of them is located near the Church of the Holy Arnir in Nin.

All three monuments created by the Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. The first monument was on 20 September 1931, the city of Varaždin given, the second slightly larger and more monumental is located in Split.
