The Greifswald SV 04 is a German sports club based in Greifswald in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern.

History

After 2003 saw the launch of insolvency of the traditional club Greifswald SC the football section of the Greifswald SC played meantime ESV / Empor Greifswald. Was on 1 January 2004 then after a big effort within the city by the merger of three clubs ESV / Empor Greifswald, SSV Green-Black Greifswald Greifswald SV and the new big-club Greifswald founded SV 98 04 eV as a multi- division club. The Greifswald SV 98 occurred in early 2010 again from the wholesale club.

As the second largest club of Greifswald and one of the strongest member in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern it has approximately 1400 members. With the merger of the performance-oriented football was again united by the young to the Oberliga team and thus established a successor of the insolvent Greifswald SC. Nearly 400 members include the largest division of the GSV 04 A prominent position is occupied by the children and youth sports, for over 800 club members are 18 years and younger. Similarly, performance and recreational sports are encouraged. The cooperation with several Greifswald schools is exemplary throughout the country. A variety of sports groups in schools are supervised by a teacher or coach of the GSV. Particularly proud of the association may be on the results especially in young competitive sports in football and athletics.

In athletics, numerous successes at the German championships could be won. Expression of very good young talent is the ownership of the Greifswald SV 04 for the country's power base Athletics.

Division football

The football section of the Greifswald SV 04 sees itself primarily as a training club and is the recipient of the DFB training base. Here many young talents are trained, some of which have made their way into the professional football. Since 2005, the Greifswald SV 04 leads the country's power base in this sport. The youth department is one of the most powerful in the state and maintains its own youth academy. For years Greifswald is one of the largest talent suppliers for FC Hansa Rostock and for selecting teams of the state and relies upon the highly acclaimed youth development program of the previous clubs BSG NPP Greifswald Greifswald SC continued their experienced trainers are the foundation of the department.

The first men's team is the figurehead of the club and competed in the regional league Mecklenburg -Vorpommern 2003. In the season 2006/ 07 was an early promotion to the Oberliga Nordost be realized. When, after the first round of the 2008/09 season with Patrick Jahn and Daniel Köhn had left the club two performers and spring also coach Andreas Zachhuber moved to FC Hansa Rostock, the team fell apart in terms of performance and landed at the end of the season only ranked eleventh. The newly formed team had in 2009/10 not the required performance for the league. After the main sponsor of Dong Energy end of 2009 abandoned its commitment, the club ran into financial difficulties. Despite coaching change, the first team got off in the fifth division of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at the end of the season. After a year of upheaval and turmoil many of the league there could be secured. In the spring of 2011, a new football department was selected, the managed to lead the club back into calmer waters, and to direct the focus more on the training of young scientists. So almost all of the current players have learned their football in the traditional ABC Greifswald football forge.

In the 2011/12 season, the football section 5 men, 13 junior and a women's team in the play mode, and especially the first team enjoys at home games great resonance in the city and the region.

Stadium

The building with the stands and the locker rooms was opened the Greifswald " people's stadium " on May 29, 1927. Dates from this period. After the Second World War the steps and benches were added in front of the grandstand. In the 1980s, a three meter high fence was erected around the field around, but this was scaled back in the spring of 2003 after the bankruptcy of the Greifswald SC. Department badminton

As the successor of Greifswald SV 98 played the first team in the season 2003/ 04 and 2004/ 05 respectively in the Oberliga Nord. In the 2005/06 season the team played in the national league Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Sovereign were won national championship and National Cup. In March of 2006, the team was able to re- qualify for the promotion round to Eutin for the league, thus creating direct resurgence. In the 2008 /09 season, the first team finished as promoted in the Regionalliga Nord in eighth place in the table and thus were relegated to the Oberliga again after one year. There, the team finished second in the 2009/10 season an excellent third place and failed only in the last game on direct resurgence. The Department Badminton is one of the largest and most successful in Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania and has the sponsorship of the State Training Centre. Success in the North German and German championships characterize the traditional outstanding youth work of the association. The home games of badminton department will be held in the sports hall 3. At the end of the season 2009/10 the department Badminton stepped back out of the Greifswald SV 04 and plays since then under the old name Greifswald SV 98

Department of Athletics

The Department of Athletics was the merger with SSV Green-Black Greifswald in December 1990. The department was founded in 1990, developed in the 1990s to one of the most powerful in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. Continuous and competent young talent brought forth numerous successes at international, national and regional levels. Around 150 members 4-65 years of age currently belong to the department; making it the second largest in the Greifswald SV 04 Ten volunteer coaches under the direction of full-time club sports teacher Ralf Ploen supervise the different groups. The Department will host several traditional events such as student -Olympia, sports festival of high schools, all-around Hallenmeisterschaften of primary school students and Intersport - New Year's run.
