Grenen [ gʀɛ ʔnən ː ] or Gren Skagen (Danish: gren " branch " or " branch of Skagen ") is the northern tip of Jutland and North West Jutland and Denmark on the North Sea ( Skagerrak ) and Kattegat meet.

Grenen forms a flat expiring headland 3 km northeast of the town of Skagen. It is the very tip of Skagen Odde ( of Skagen ), extending from an imaginary line between Hirtshals and Frederikshavn about a length of approximately 30 km and is one of the largest peninsulas in the world.

Grenen is a popular tourist destination. It can be observed, as the waves of the two seas meet. The exact location and shape of the outermost strip of sand can change significantly from day to day, depending on current and wind conditions. Grenen is below sea level in Skagen reef continues, formerly feared by the shipping between the North and Baltic Seas. Near Grenen is discouraged from swimming because of the strong current.

However, the northernmost point of Jutland and Denmark is two kilometers west location Skagen North beach because Grenen shifted over the last few centuries more and more to the northeast and the promontory of Skagen ( Skagen Odde ) has increased it. Due to current conditions, material transport within these currents and the position of the reef ( extension of the headland below the water line ) always new beach ridges that each affiliate in parallel on the north side of the headland approximately in a west-east orientation. Aerial photographs or satellite images (eg, Google Maps), the resultant strip-like landscape structure in the northern part of the peninsula is clearly visible up to Grenen. In this way, Skagen Odde has extended over the last 300 years by about 2.5 km to the northeast. A dating based on different peat layers, which are embedded in the subsoil of the land between beach ridge horizons and outcrop in a cliff profile on the northwest coast, showed that the headland has grown over the last 6,000 years by about 20 kilometers to the northeast. The area of Grenen particular is a result of this well here to be observed until now ongoing and further continuing development as an area of particular geological interest classified (Danish: "National geologiske interesseområder " ) and therefore enjoys a special protection status under Danish nature conservation law.
