Gresham is a town in York County in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

Demography

According to census of 2000, Gresham has 270 inhabitants, of whom 132 men and 138 women.

Location

Gresham is located in eastern Nebraska about 17 km east of U.S. Highway 81 Interstate 80 runs in about 28 km to the south.

History

The town was founded in 1887 by the Pioneer Townsite Company. It was suspected that the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad, which was traveling through York County to the west, would be embarrassed at this point tracks. It was named after the statesman Walter Q. Gresham. In the same winter the rails actually reached the place. The first school house was built in 1888. 1900, the library was opened by the Woman's Club, which is run by volunteers since its inception.
