Greta Schröder

Greta Schröder ( born September 7, 1891 in Dusseldorf as Margaret Schroeder, † April 13, 1967 in Vienna) was a German film and theater actress.

Life

She came from a middle-class Rhine family, which gave her desire to become an actress. In the 1910s she came to Berlin to the German theater. Soon after, she married the director Ernst Matray. Shortly after the divorce she married in October 1924 actor Paul Wegener.

Her first film role was in the silent film The Island of the Blessed (1913 ), directed by the theater director Max Reinhardt. In 1916 she wrote the screenplay for the German Erstverfilmung of The Phantom of the Opera, which was released under the direction of her husband Ernst Matray.

Her greatest role was in Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror (1922 ), directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau.

After a role in The Prisoner of Maharaja (1953 ) by Veit Harlan, she played a small supporting role in last dots and Anton (1953 ) after the youth book by Erich Kästner.
