Gretz-Armainvilliers

Gretz- Armainvilliers is a commune in the Seine -et -Marne in the Ile- de -France region. The municipality is located in the region of Brie, and had in 2009 7.925 inhabitants.

The place Tournan -en- Brie is located east, the place Chevry- Cossigny is located southwest of Gretz- Armainvilliers. Paris located 32 kilometers west.

Mayor is the non-party conservatives ( Divers droite ) Jean -Paul Garcia. The place is best known as the birthplace of Maurice Papon ( 1910-2007 ). This was in spite of its function in the Vichy regime in the postwar period of senior officials, the police prefect of Paris and minister before he was indicted and convicted for his participation in the deportation of Jews. From 1955 to 1958 he was mayor of his hometown.

The aviation pioneer Clément Ader in 1890 led here experiments with a homemade flying machine through which were not successful, however.
