Grewcock's sportive lemur

Features

With 23 to 27 centimeters in body length, 27 to 30 inches tail length and 0.7 to 0.8 kilograms include lemurs Grewcock - to medium-sized representatives of their genera. Dissemination and lifestyle

Grewcock - lemurs inhabit the dry deciduous forests in the northwest of the island of Madagascar. As far as known, the river Mahajamba the northern border and the rivers Maevarano and Sofia forms the southern boundary of its range.

About their life little is known, but it is likely to coincide with that of the other lemurs. They are nocturnal and usually stay in the trees, where they move vertically climbing and jumping. Their diet should consist of leaves, fruits, flowers and other plant parts.

Endangering

Systematics and naming

The species was first described in 2006, the name honors Bill and Berniece Grewcock, a supporter of the exploration of Malagasy primates. 2007, a new Wieselmakiart, the Manasamody - Lemur ( Lepilemur manasamody ) was described by a research group of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. The localities of the two species are only 2 miles apart and are separated by no geographical barrier, the types are very similar.
