Grey-headed Warbler

The gray -cheeked Warbler ( Basileuterus griseiceps ) is a small passerine bird in the genus Basileuterus in the family of warblers ( Parulidae ). Spreads are the little birds in northeastern Venezuela. From the IUCN they are since 2000 " endangered " as ( Endangered ) out.

Features

Grey -cheeked Warbler reach a body length of fourteen inches. The wing length is 5.6 inches in the male, the female, there is no exact information. Adult gray -cheeked Warbler and young birds from the first year have a dark gray crown and nape feathers. The crown is crossed in the back, with slightly faded olive color components; at the front with fine blackish. The rest of the head plumage is gray with fine white dots under the eye and fine white lines in the cheek area. The bill is blackish; the legs flesh-colored. They carry an olive top feathers and a yellow underside plumage.

Resources, nutrition and reproduction

Grey -cheeked warblers are endemic in northeastern Venezuela. They inhabit the mountains of the coastal range Cordillera de Caripe the border areas of Monagas ( Cerro Turumiquire and Cerro Negro in the National Park El Guácharo ) and Anzoategui in the southwest of Sucre. There they are found in cloud forests, secondary forests and clearings at elevations from 1200 to 2440 meters, especially in the undergrowth; but are commonly found at altitudes from 1400 to 2100 meters. Like all warbler species, they feed mainly on insects and other invertebrates. About breeding behavior nothing more is known.

Conservation status and population numbers

Grey -cheeked warblers are among the rarest warbler species. The IUCN lists them as " critically endangered " ( Endangered ). By clearing for coffee plantations, the suitable habitat decreases rapidly. Documented is a sighting of the 1963 Cerro Turumiquire and a single bird in 1987 and two birds in February 1993 on the Cerro Negro. The Birds BirdLife International estimates the population size at 2500-10000 individuals.
