Grigol Mgaloblishvili

Grigol Mgaloblischwili (Georgian გრიგოლ მგალობლიშვილი; born October 7, 1973 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian diplomat and politician. From 1 November 2008 to 6 February 2009, he was Prime Minister of Georgia.

Life

1990 to 1995 he studied Oriental Studies at the State University of Tbilisi. In 1992 and 1993 he moved to the University of Istanbul, where he studied Turkish. In 2002 and 2003 he studied at the University of Oxford a postgraduate course in diplomatic studies.

In 1995 and 1996 he worked as a translator at the trade mission in Ankara. 1996 to 1998 he moved to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, where he worked first as Secretary, then as the second and finally as first secretary in the Western Europe Department. In 1998 he went again to the Georgian Embassy in Ankara. In 2003 he returned to Tbilisi, where he was deputy head of the Department of North and South America. In 2004 he became head of the European Department, then went as ambassador to Turkey. On November 1, the Georgian Parliament elected him president Mikheil Saakashvili's proposal to Prime Minister.

Already on 30 January 2009 Mgaloblischwili asked the President for health reasons for his dismissal. He has long suffered already from kidney disease, which he had, inter alia, deal in Germany. A few weeks earlier there had been press reports, Saakashvili had rejected a resignation of the Prime Minister and there had been physical altercations between the two. As his successor Mgaloblischwili suggested the previous finance minister and deputy prime minister Nika Gilauri.

Mgaloblischwili is married and has two children. In addition to Georgian, he speaks English, Turkish, Russian and German.
