Grinda

Grinda is an island in the archipelago near Stockholm in the community Värmdö. The island is since the 16th century - beginning of peasants - populated. At the beginning of the 18th century, the island was privately owned and had in the meantime also in the possession of the Crown, but the beginning of the 19th century could be bought back by the farmers living there again.

1906 bought the first director of the Nobel Foundation, Henrik Santesson, the island and settled there built a summer residence for himself and his family. The Art Nouveau style, the yellow stone villa is still standing on the island and is in use as a restaurant ( Grinda Wärdshus ). 1944 bought the city of Stockholm, the island, in 1998 it was taken over by the archipelago Foundation ( Skärgårdsstiftelse ). Today, there are in addition to a holiday village a youth hostel and two camping areas on the island.

With the shipping company Waxholmsbolaget the island several times to reach out daily from Stockholm and Vaxholm.
