Grip Stave Church

Grip Stave Church is a Norwegian stave church in grip on the island of Holmen Grip in Kristiansund.

History

The church was first mentioned in documents in 1589, but has been probably built in the 14th century and thus a relatively young stave church. In 1621 the church was thoroughly restored and painted inside. Probably the roof riders goes back to this restoration. In the second half of the 19th century church with a sacristy and a weapons room was expanded. The paintings from the 17th century were painted over. Later still came to a wainscoting. 1930 restored to the church again, distant again the paneling and put the painting from 1621 free. The church received an additional Exterior cladding for better weather resistance.

Architecture and Facilities

The church is a simple hall church. The chorus is as wide as the ship. The church has a south portal into the ship. The choir portal to the south is no longer available.

The altar is a triptych with Mary and Jesus Christ as a child in the middle. To her right is St. Olav and left St. Margaret.
