Gripenberg Castle

Gripsholm Castle Mountain (Swedish: Grip Mount slott ) is Tranås in the historical province of Småland. It is the largest wooden castle in Sweden and was built in 1663 as a hunting lodge by Carl Gustav Wrangel.

The name selected Wrangel presumably to cherish the memory of his mother Margareta Grip. The architect is unknown but it is believed that it is from the older Nicodemus Tessin. It is also a contemporary wooden model of the palace, which was probably related to planning and design, have been preserved. This model is now on Skokloster. At the end of the 17th century castle was bought Gripenberg of the Commerce of Samuel Soderling. It is still owned by his heirs and is not accessible to the public. The building is a listed building.
